The Internet and Photography - Not always what you think
If you have a few moments (1hr 17mins) please consider viewing this vimeo piece called "Photo 2.0 - Online Photographic Thinking." This is a panel discussion from the SPE regional conference in Syracuse, NY, Nov. 5, 2011. The Internet, whatever it is, has a lot to offer photography and photographers. It's not just about image dissemination anymore. In fact, at this point, that might be it's worst offering - or, at least, the most over-saturated, and least rewarding. The artists in this panel discussion all discuss how they are using the Internet in refreshingly interesting ways - social media to find subjects, kickstarter.com to fund projects, crowd-sourcing for input on projects, google to source work, and etsy to sell work. Add blurb, Magcloud, vimeo, and emphas.is to the discussion and you start to see the potential of the (relatively) free yet powerful Internet.
If you don't have time to watch the entire discussion check out Phil Toledano's dayswithmyfather.com, Molly Landreth's embodimentusa.com, and Andy Adams's flakphoto.com.
